Miyajima Highlights Tour (6 hours)

The famous vermillion red Shinto torii gate in the water is one of the most famous images of Japan, and if your trip in Japan takes you to Hiroshima, Miyajima is a must-see. Check our Miyajima itinerary below!

Miyajima’s official name is Itsukushima, after the Shinto shrine that is located on the island. The island is so holy that nobody is supposed to be born or die on this island. It is, however, perfectly possible to enter the island and even to spend the night there. If you have limited time, why not do a private tour of this beautiful island so you can see all the best and hidden areas?

Miyajima tour itinerary

Your guide will pick you up in your Hiroshima hotel or meet you at Hiroshima station, and you will take the train and boat together to Miyajima. The guide will advise you on the best starting time, as what you will see is dependent on the tides.

While it is only a small island, there are many interesting sights located here. Your guide will take you to all of them, and tell you some interesting background stories. You will see the Itsukushima shrine itself (including the torii gate in the sea) and the beautiful Daisho-in temple, and go for a short hike on Mt. Misen with a wonderful view waiting for you at the summit.

You will also see the sober Senjokaku Hall, which was founded by a former shogun, and take some short trails around the seaside village area.
