Fukuoka Highlights Tour (6 hours)

If you make a cruise or a long trip to Japan, chances are that you will also visit the southern island of Kyushu. This island is rich in culture and natural beauty but is not yet discovered by mass tourism. If you come to Fukuoka (also called Hakata), why not make the most of it with a private tour? Check out our Fukuoka Highlights tour itinerary below!

Fukuoka private tour itinerary

The tour starts in Tenjin, a bustling shopping area. This area boasts a big underground shopping mall and most of the famous shops can be found around here. You will have a short look around there to learn more about the local products before you continue to a historical highlight of the Fukuoka region.

You will make your way ‘back in time’ to the much quieter town of Dazaifu, which is an intricate part of the city of Fukuoka with a long history. There are a number of temples and shrines here and we will visit the most important of them, the Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. The street leading up to the shrine is lined with shops selling souvenirs, local delicacies like umegaemochi, and restaurants that are perfect for a local lunch.

We will then return to the Tenjin area to take a walk past some interesting architectural highlights of Fukuoka. From one of these buildings, you can enjoy a perfect view over a part of the city. Strolling along the river and through an old part of town, you will make your way to Hakata, which is the modern station area of Fukuoka, from where you will be brought back to the port or to the train to your next destination by the guide.
