Is the Toranomon Edition hotel just a hype or worth a visit?
The Toranomon Edition hotel and bar is the latest newcomer in a long line of boutique high class hotels in Tokyo. But it’s definitely not a newcomer world wide! In fact, The London Edition was initially built as five conjoining townhouses in the classical style in 1835. Before its conversion into Berners Hotel in 1909 during the peak of the splendor of the Edwardian era. This was then the heart of London nightlife, welcoming illustrious guests such as King Edward VII and Carl Fabergé.
The hotel in London offers a sophisticated design sensibility characteristic of Schrager’s hotels and is a social hub where guests and visitors can work, relax, sleep, socialize and dine. We went to find out of this Tokyo version holds up to the London standards.
The Toranomon Edition hotel, promising but worth it?
The Toranomon Edition hotel has just opened its door in 2021. From the website it looked as if it is every bit as promising as it’s predecessors. So we went there to find out if it’s a good location for a girls night out or a date night.
It was definitely to our liking! It’s hip, swanky and when you enter the brand spanking new bar it feels like you are stepping into a green oasis. Granted, the city center Tokyo can be a bit overwhelming with crowds everywhere and high rises as far as the eye can see. That’s why a luxury spot like the Tokyo Edition hotel is such a breath of fresh air.
A spacious bar that fills up the entire floor
The bar takes up the whole floor, but it’s open floor design and spacious planning doesn’t feel like the typical Tokyo bars where one is crowded and stuffed against each other. Especially for women or for couples who require a bit of privacy it’s an ideal location with stunning views of the city, gentle music in the background, amazing service, top quality drinks and food and a charming ambiance.
A place to see and be seen?
When we were at the bar, we received the red-carpet treatment and got the best seats in the house with the best view of Tokyo tower. This attention to detail by the staff definitely added to the whole experience.
The place was rather empty when we were there, but that was probably due to the lockdown. Not many people would venture out and a lot of places were closed due to Covid 19 restrictions. So not so happening while we were there. Hopefully things will pick up after the lockdown is lifted.
The drinks were superb, although pricey. Same was true for the food. Although the portion sizes were adequate, it was definitely not cheap. If you want to enjoy open space, privacy and a wonderful ambiance you better bring your creditcard, but all in all it was worth it as we had a most enjoyable evening.

Final review
All in all we would definitely recommend the Toranomon Edition hotel to our families and friends. If you are looking for a relaxed evening. If you want the highest quality. If you want impeccable service. If you want privacy and seclusion. Then the Toranomon Edition hotel is really the place to be. We need to go back another time to see if it’s also suitable for singles. 😉
