Would you like to dive deep into some of Tokyo’s most hip and happening areas with a well-versed local guide who knows the area like the back of her hand? Our Do Harajuku and Shibuya Like a Local Tour is for you. In this private Tokyo tour you will be taken on a round through high streets and small byroads and get the full young Tokyo experience. Of course, you get to taste and try as well on this fun half day in Japan’s capital!
Harajuku and Shibuya itinerary
This tour will start off quietly in one of Tokyo’s greenest areas, the Meiji Shrine. Your guide will tell you all about the history of the shrine and its surroundings and about the Emperor and Empress who the shrine is dedicated to. You will then move on to a contrasting area that is very colorful and always full of lively commerce, Takeshita Dori. You will see where the local teenagers love to go shopping, what they love to eat, and what they like to do in their free time. Of course, you will get a chance to enter some of the best shops for some (window) shopping and tasting of fashionable snacks.
Next up are Cat Street and Omotesando, the more adult version of this shoppers’ paradise. Admire the beautiful architecture in the area and enter some more interesting shops that catch your fancy or are especially recommended by the guide. You will go past plenty of Instagrammable spots as well, so get that camera ready! The tour ends in Shibuya, where you will be fully immersed in one of the world’s most crowded intersections and say hi to loyal dog Hachiko’s statue.
Depending on your tempo and interests, you can also add a stop in Shimokitazawa, one of Tokyo’s best places to go vintage shopping and find that unique item that no-one else has at home.
